The Importance of a Friend

Life not only gets hard, but it can become lonely if we aren’t careful.

As an introvert, I could stay in my room for the rest of my life and be kind of okay.

But there is just something about having a friend.

Having someone to share your life with, laugh with, to text ridiculous memes and gifs to. And there is something about having someone there when you need a big cry, someone to encourage you to be better, and hey, someone to pray for you and lead you back to the Word of God.

It’s not easy opening up to people. It’s not even easy making time for people. I could find all the excuses in the world (and I have!), but at the end of the day I know I wasn’t designed to do life alone.

I was designed to do life with other people.

I have battled with this my whole life.

There’s a part of me who wants to hide from the world, but there’s a different tug in my heart that says, “reach out!”

If you find yourself lonely today, make time for friends in your life, do life with other people. Heck, message me and I promise to message back!

Just for fun, here are a list of friends I believe everyone should have:

Krystal: Get yourself a Krystal. This is the kind of friend who has passion and life in every step they walk. They are a light in the darkness, a contagious laugh always ready to bring a smile to you. Not only has Krystal been a joy to be around, she never hesitates to pray for you at the drop of a dime.

Andrea: Andrea is a special kind of friend. She’s that genuine friend who will listen to you for hours on end, and I mean TRULY listen! She is wise beyond her years, and as sweet as can be. She is loyal, accountable, and transparent. She is a shoulder to cry on, she is a friend who will stand by you for a lifetime.

Julia: If you don’t have a friend who will literally battle for you, go find one. Julia led me to the greatest gift (Jesus), and she didn’t give up until I received it. She prayed for me when I was in my pit of despair. She reached out to me when I closed the doors on the world. She never judged me, but she loved me with an unconditional love that is rare to find. She’s a warrior, she’s a true friend.

As you probably guessed, these are some of my dearest friends. We aren’t attached at the hip, we don’t even talk every day. But we do connect, and we do love each other.

No matter where life takes you, no matter how busy life gets (because it will get busy!!), make it part of your DNA to value the friendships in your life. It doesn't have to be a lonely life. Reach out to someone, and lets do life together!
